High-end graphics cards
The graphics card is responsible for rendering and displaying content on your monitor. Therefore, it is essential for desktop PCs. But how does the image appear on your screen?
Commands are processed within the programming code of a software application and forwarded to the operating system. A suitable graphics card driver can then translate this code, which has been processed by OpenGL or DirectX.
The pixels displayed on the monitor move through pipelines. Shaders are responsible for giving these pixels colour and shape. Once the image has been fully calculated, the graphics card begins the process again, starting with the calculation of the next image to be displayed on your desktop PC's monitor.
When it comes to graphics cards, it is important to differentiate between integrated and dedicated GPUs. Integrated graphics are a cost-effective option for displaying images when performing simple tasks such as browsing the internet or working with office applications, as the graphics chip is integrated directly into the processor. Current iGPUs are even suitable for running simple games.
Dedicated graphics cards, on the other hand, are separate components in desktop PCs with their own graphics memory (VRAM) and cooling unit. Consequently, they offer many times the performance of an integrated graphics unit, enabling demanding games and complex graphics projects to be displayed and calculated in high quality.

Which graphics card do you need for gaming and GPU acceleration of video and photo software?
For office and multimedia applications, an integrated graphics processing unit (iGPU) is all you need in a desktop PC. If you want to enjoy less graphically complex games and applications on your new desktop PC, we recommend at least a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 or AMD Radeon RX 9060. These graphics cards are powerful enough for many popular e-sports titles that are less graphically demanding.
If you want to play the latest AAA games with the highest quality settings, you should opt for the GeForce RTX 5060, RTX 5060 Ti or Radeon RX 9060 XT.
If you use a monitor with a resolution higher than 1920 x 1080 pixels, your graphics card will need to process more pixels. To support a WQHD monitor with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, configure your gaming PC with a GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 16 GB of VRAM, an RTX 5070, or a Radeon RX 9600 XT.
For 4K gaming at UHD resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels), however, you will need an even more powerful graphics card such as the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti or 5080 with 16 GB of GDDR7 memory, or the Radeon RX 9070 XT.

Motherborards - the foundation for your PC configuration
The mainboard, also known as the motherboard, is the fundamental component of your PC on which other hardware can be installed. The processor, RAM, graphics card and internal drives, such as hard disks and SSDs, connect to the mainboard via sockets and slots.
The motherboard also offers various connection options for external hard disks, input devices, controllers, printers, PC speakers, powerful sound systems and other peripherals. Depending on the model, you can connect storage devices and other peripherals, such as a mouse or keyboard, via USB Type-A or Type-C ports. If you use a processor with integrated graphics, the motherboard will also have a monitor connection, such as DisplayPort or HDMI
The motherboard also has audio jacks for the integrated sound card, enabling you to connect speakers, a headset or a microphone. Depending on the model, you can access the internet with your desktop PC using a cable and the RJ45 connector — either via Gigabit LAN or a 2.5 Gigabit connection. Many mainboards also come with their own WLAN card with Bluetooth for wireless connections.

High-performance memory enables smooth multitasking
The more RAM your desktop PC has, the more applications it can run in parallel without slowing down. Data and programmes are stored temporarily in RAM (random access memory). The processor can access this data directly, which drastically increases the speed at which you can work with your software.
However, RAM is volatile, meaning that if you switch off your computer, the data stored in the RAM disappears. In contrast, SSDs and hard disks are non-volatile memories that store data permanently.
You benefit from having a lot of RAM, especially when playing games, because as much data as possible can be stored in your computer's very fast memory. The same applies when editing high-resolution images or videos: having as much RAM as possible gives you a decisive advantage, enabling even very large photos to fit completely into the RAM and be edited smoothly.

How much RAM do you need in a desktop PC?
If you mainly use your desktop PC for basic office tasks and browsing the internet, 8 GB of RAM is sufficient, but 16 GB is even better. For gaming, however, we recommend a minimum of 16 GB, while 32 GB would be future-proof.
Creative professionals need as much memory as possible. If you use your desktop PC as a powerful workstation, configure it with 64 GB, 128 GB or even up to 196 GB of DDR5 RAM.
SSDs speed up system start-up and reduce loading times
When it comes to hard disks, we distinguish between HDDs (hard disk drives) and SSDs (solid state drives). HDDs are usually 3.5" in size and work mechanically. They consist of several magnetic discs and a read-and-write head.
These magnetic discs rotate continuously during operation. The read/write head moves over them to read and write data. Unlike SSDs, HDDs offer a large amount of storage for a relatively low price, making them perfect for storing large collections of documents, music, photos or videos.
SSDs, on the other hand, have no moving parts, so they are completely silent. They are based on flash memory modules and a controller that writes your data to, or reads it from, the memory chips. If you select an operating system for your desktop PC in the configurator, we will install it automatically on the SSD.
An SSD is much faster than a conventional HDD. Even the most modern mechanical hard disks operate at a maximum speed of around 300 MB/s. By contrast, the fastest SSDs, such as the Samsung SSD 9100 PRO, can write at speeds of up to 13,400 MB/s and read at speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s.
If the operating system is installed on an SSD, your system will start up quickly. Additionally, loading times for games and other applications stored on the SSD are significantly reduced.
The latest NVMe SSDs come in the form of an M.2 card and connect to current mainboards for AMD and Intel processors via four PCI Express 4.0 or 5.0 lanes. High-end models use both an SLC and a DRAM cache, enabling you to take full advantage of the storage bandwidth in your desktop PC.

High-end CPU coolers for the best possible cooling performance

Air cooling for processors works as follows: When operating, the CPU generates heat. A heat spreader located on the processor dissipates this heat. For the processor to work at maximum performance with low temperatures, a powerful cooler is required. Heat-conducting compounds or thermal grease compensate for microscopic unevenness to ensure optimum contact between the heat spreader and the cooler.
The CPU cooler picks up the heat via a base plate and transfers it to the heat pipes. The heat pipes then transfer the heat to a large aluminium fin cooling block, which is actively cooled by a fan.

As an alternative to air cooling, we also offer high-performance compact liquid cooling systems (AIOs).
In these systems, heat from the components is transferred via a water circuit through tubes from the CPU to a 240 mm, 280 mm or 360 mm radiator. Attached to the outer side of the PC chassis, the radiator is also actively cooled by several fans to expel the heat from the chassis.

A fully water-cooled desktop PC with custom water cooling goes one step further, integrating not only the processor but also other components, such as the graphics card, into the cooling circuit. Ultimately, a fully water-cooled desktop PC outperforms a system with air cooling for individual components. The system runs more quietly and coolly, giving you greater flexibility for overclocking your components.
Stable, reliable power supply for your desktop PC: quiet and powerful PSUs
A PC power supply unit (PSU) handles the power supply for all the components in your PC. When you connect your desktop PC to the 230-volt mains supply, the power supply generates the voltages required by your hardware: 12 volts, 5 volts and 3.3 volts.
The more efficiently the power supply works, the less power is wasted. Additionally, highly efficient power supply units in desktop PCs generate less heat. Therefore, they can be cooled very quietly or even operate semi-passively under partial load.
This means that the power supply fan only starts up when your PC is under heavy load. In office mode or when browsing the internet, however, the power supply unit operates silently.
How many watts should a PC power supply unit have?
In the bestware PC configurator, we indicate the performance class required for a power supply unit. The more powerful the graphics card you choose for your new desktop PC, the more powerful the power supply unit should be.
For a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, for example, you should choose a PSU with at least 750 watts; for an RTX 5090, you will need a model with 1000 watts.
