XMG FOCUS 17: Affordable 17.3-inch laptop with RTX 5070 Ti and 16:9 display

With the XMG FOCUS 17, XMG presents a laptop that is unusual in several respects, combining a 17.3-inch display in 16:9 format with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. The reason for this decision is the still high demand for precisely this form factor. XMG positions the device, equipped with a WQHD display offering 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage and a 240 Hz refresh rate, in a lower price range than the XMG PRO 16 in its entry-level configuration. Users can choose between an Intel Core i9-14900HX or an i9-13900HX processor.
XMG FOCUS 17: GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, Intel Core i9 CPUs and 17.3-inch display
To position the XMG FOCUS 17 in the sub-€2,000 price range, XMG is using two 24-core, 32-thread CPUs from the last Raptor Lake HX generation: the Core i9-13900HX and the Core i9-14900HX (a refresh of the latter), which differ primarily in the slightly higher boost clock of the 14900HX, reaching up to 5.8 GHz instead of 5.4 GHz. Both still offer plenty of gaming performance and are significantly cheaper than the new Core Ultra 9 275HX.
The graphics card used is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with 12 GB of GDDR7 VRAM and a maximum specified graphics power of 140 watts including Dynamic Boost. Compared to the RTX 5080 and 5090, this card offers a better price-performance ratio and – with DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation – is even sufficient for 4K gaming, which is not possible in many games with smaller GPUs that only have 8 GB of memory.
The XMG FOCUS 17's casing measures 397 x 265.1 x 24.9 mm (front) to 28.6 mm (rear), weighs 2.79 kg including a 73 Wh battery, and features an aluminum display cover for improved stability.
The 17.3-inch laptop version is rather unusual in 2025: “Large-format laptops with 16:9 displays will be rare in 2025, especially when combined with RTX 50-series graphics cards. However, our decision to launch the XMG FOCUS 17 with a 17.3-inch display was preceded by a long period during the launch of the new laptop graphics cards, during which a surprisingly large number of our customers repeatedly asked us for exactly this type of model,” explains Robert Schenker, CEO of Schenker Technologies.
WQHD display with 100% DCI-P3 and 240 Hz, up to 96 GB RAM and two SSD slots
The XMG FOCUS's 16:9 IPS panel offers WQHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels), a 240 Hz refresh rate, and a brightness of 300 nits. It also covers 100 percent of both the sRGB and extended DCI-P3 color spaces. The display is connected via a MUX switch, allowing for continuous switching to the NVIDIA dGPU. Above the screen, XMG has integrated a Full HD webcam with temporary noise reduction and a privacy shutter.
In addition to two M.2 SSD slots with PCI Express 4.0 x4, the XMG FOCUS 17 offers two SO-DIMM slots for up to 96 GB of DDR5 RAM: up to 64 GB runs at 5600 MT/s, 96 GB at 5200 MT/s. Thermal pads ensure improved SSD temperatures, while for RAM configurations that generate more heat, XMG equips configurations with additional pads, i.e., dual-rank memory modules with components on both sides.
Numerous rear ports and optional Wi-Fi 7
Like many other XMG laptops from 2025, the FOCUS 17 also features a large number of external ports on the back. These include a Gigabit Ethernet port, HDMI 2.1 with 48 Gbps, the power connector, and USB-C 3.2 Gen2 with an integrated DisplayPort 2.1 with DP80. On the sides, XMG has placed USB-A 3.2 Gen2 and USB-A 3.2 Gen1 ports, a 2-in-1 audio jack for headset and microphone, and another USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port, also with an integrated DisplayPort 2.1 with DP80 and 100W Power Delivery. This allows the XMG FOCUS 17 to natively connect up to three external monitors; all three video interfaces are directly connected to the dedicated NVIDIA graphics card. Wireless networking is handled via Wi-Fi 6E or, optionally, Wi-Fi 7.
In addition to a keyboard with a full numeric keypad, separate full-size arrow keys, Fn-Lock function and multi-color customizable backlighting, the FOCUS 17 features a 150 x 90 mm Microsoft Precision-compliant touchpad with a glass-like Mylar surface.
