XMG APEX 16 MAX: 16-inch laptop with RTX 5070 Ti and AMD 16-core CPUs

The XMG APEX 16 MAX represents the price-performance-focused entry point into the upper performance class within the XMG portfolio: The base configuration with a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is available for under €2,000. This positions the Leipzig-based company's laptop, equipped with a Ryzen 9 8940HX or 9955HX, as the AMD-based counterpart to the similarly affordable XMG PRO 16 Value Edition with Intel CPUs. Advanced features include 1600p displays with a 300 Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage – either as a 500-nit bright IPS panel or a 1000-nit bright Mini-LED panel. In addition to the extensive connectivity options typical of XMG, the freely configurable laptop can be configured with up to 96 GB of RAM and a maximum of 16 TB of SSD storage.
XMG APEX 16 MAX: Ryzen 9 9955HX or 8940HX, RTX 5070 Ti, high power limits
With the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with 12 GB GDDR7-VRAM, the XMG APEX 16 MAX (M25) integrates the most interesting of the three large graphics chips in terms of price-performance ratio, offering plenty of power for gaming with high FPS rates on the laptop's 1600p display: The GPU operates continuously at the maximum graphics power specified by NVIDIA of 140 watts including 25 watt Dynamic Boost.
The two selectable AMD processors also operate with very high power limits: Either the Fire Range CPU Ryzen 9 9955HX or the Dragon Range Refresh CPU Ryzen 9 8940HX are available, each with 16 cores and 32 threads.
The APEX 16 MAX's heatpipe cooling system utilizes two 80 mm fans, two rear air vents with a total of 150 copper cooling fins, and phase-changing Honeywell PTM7958 thermal pads. Air is drawn in from both the bottom of the laptop and the keyboard area. As a result, all components deliver consistently high performance.

Power Limits: XMG APEX 16 MAX (M25)
The APEX 16 MAX chassis measures 356.7 x 253.8 x 26 mm, and the display lid is made of aluminum. Including the 99.8 Wh battery, it weighs 2.45 kg with an IPS display or 2.6 kg with a mini-LED display. External power is supplied via either a 240-watt or 280-watt power adapter – configurations with the optional mini-LED display receive the slightly more powerful adapter.
IPS or Mini-LED display with 1600p resolution, 300 Hz and 100 percent DCI-P3
The 16-inch IPS and optional Mini-LED panels both have a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, a 300 Hz refresh rate, and 100% coverage of both the sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces. Factory-calibrated color profiles are available via the XMG Control Center, as is an optional 240 Hz or 60 Hz mode for energy-saving operation. While the IPS display is specified with a brightness of 500 nits, the Mini-LED display is significantly brighter, reaching 750 nits in SDR and 1,000 nits in HDR mode, due to the technology's limitations. Local dimming can be disabled.
Two M.2 SSDs and up to 96 GB of DDR5 RAM
With two M.2 SSD slots for up to 16 TB of storage and PCI Express 5.0 x4 for the primary slot, as well as two SO-DIMM slots for plug-in and therefore later upgradeable RAM, the APEX 16 MAX is very well equipped.
A difference in maximum RAM capacity arises depending on the chosen CPU, according to AMD's official specifications: The Ryzen 9955HX supports up to 96 GB of DDR5-5600, while the Ryzen 9 8940HX supports a maximum of 64 GB of DDR5-5200. XMG is currently investigating whether larger RAM configurations can be released and offered for the entry-level CPU after its initial launch. For optimal cooling, both SSD slots are equipped with heat sinks and thermal pads.
Flexible connectivity including native connection options for four external monitors
XMG has also placed many external ports on the back of the XMG APEX 16 MAX. These include HDMI 2.1 with 48 Gbit/s, a DP80-capable Mini DisplayPort 2.1, the power supply connector, and USB-C 3.2 Gen2 with integrated DisplayPort 1.4a and 140 Watt Power Delivery (20 V, 7A).
The laptop's side-mounted ports include an additional USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port with DisplayPort 1.4a and 100W Power Delivery, three USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a fast, full-size SD Express compatible card reader, a 2-in-1 audio jack for headset and microphone, and a 2.5 Gigabit RJ45 network port. The APEX 16 MAX supports Wi-Fi 6E for wireless networking.
Thanks to its extensive range of video interfaces, the laptop allows native image output to up to four external monitors in addition to its internal display. Mini DisplayPort and HDMI operate directly via the NVIDIA dGPU for maximum performance, while the DisplayPort function of the two USB-C ports uses the energy-efficient iGPU of the AMD processor.
Keyboard with RGB per-key backlighting and N-key rollover
The keyboard of the XMG APEX 16 MAX is identical to that of many other XMG laptops from the 2025 model generation, including the NEO 16, CORE 16, and PRO 16. Therefore, it offers the full range of features with RGB per-key backlighting, anti-ghosting, N-key rollover, a full-size numeric keypad, separate full-size arrow keys, an FN lock function, and the already familiar, improved scissor-switch mechanisms under the concave keycaps.
In addition to the generously sized 123 x 77.5 mm glass-like Mylar touchpad – with gliding properties at least equivalent to glass touchpads and also known from many other XMG laptops – the APEX 16 MAX offers a Full HD webcam with a physical cover on the top of the display.
